Dr. Tochi Joy Okwor - Executive Director

Dr. Tochi Joy Okwor, is a Consultant Public and Occupational Health Physician at the Department of Community Health University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital Itukku Ozalla. Dr. Tochi started her very impressive medical career in 1996 when she graduated from the University of Nigeria Nsukka where she obtained her MBBS, she later obtained her Master’s in Public Health MPH from the University of Lagos in 2003 and another masters in Occupational Medicine from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom in 2012.  She is a Fellow Faculty of Public Health National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria.

In 2006-2007 Dr. Tochi was made Consultant Occupational Health Manager to MTN Nigeria Victoria Island Lagos and in 2007- 2010 she was the MD/CEO of  HealthAccess Limited Ikoyi an Occupation Health Service Organisation. Dr. Joy’s commitment and professionalism saw her being appointed the Institute Doctor at Nigeria Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, Akoka Yaba Lagos from 2010 -2012. Due to her great commitment to her Country, Dr. Tochi served as the National Training Coordinator, National Ebola Emergency Operation Centre Nigeria during the Ebola outbreak in 2014.  In 2015 she became the CEHD Project Manager for the OMRON Medical Connect Project in collaboration with the Amsterdam Institute of Global Health and Development.      

Dr. Tochi is a committed member of various organizations and bodies such as American Thoracic Society (ATS), Association of Public Health Physicians of Nigeria (APHPN), Society for Occupational and Environmental Health Physicians of Nigeria (SOEHPON), Nigeria Infection Control Association (NICA), Infection Control Africa Network (ICAN) Health Systems Global, University of Manchester Alumni Association

She is very knowledgeable and skilled in conducting research and has numerous publications in international and local peer reviewed journals and also have served in many capacities as a coordinator or member of various health committees including Member Technical Working Group of the NCDC Manual Universal and Outbreak Infection Control (MAURICE) project to develop a National harmonized infection prevention and control (IPC) manual. Member National Anti-Microbial Resistance Technical Working Group (Nigeria).

Member Case Management Working Group of the World Health Organization Global Task Force on Cholera Control.

Member National Working Group developing guidelines for healthcare workers and authorities on Public Health Response to Acute Watery Diarrhoea in Nigeria.

Member of the team that developed the AFENET Basic Healthcare Epidemiology and Infection Prevention Control Training Curriculum.

Coordinator of the Exxon Mobil funded IPC curriculum development project (A curriculum designed for training of IPC professional in Nigeria).

Dr. Tochi servers on the board of Eone Food Industries Nigeria Limited as an Executive Director, she is happily married with four amazing children.
